A few thoughts on why this exists and what it is…
Last year, roughly a quarter-million people moved to NYC. It’s well known the city has a gravitational pull on people seeking career opportunities and a vibrant cultural scene. It’s also well known that it’s not an easy move to make.
Relocation is a real business problem, not just an inconvenience for the person moving. When a move looks too intimidating, too slow, or too expensive, top talent declines offers or skips NYC-based roles entirely. Start dates slip. New hires arrive stressed and distracted. Churn risk spikes.
Other services that help with moving are often generic, expensive or exclusive. Many don’t know NYC’s specific regulations, cost benchmarks, hidden fees, and the ones that do are marketed to Fortune 500 enterprises who can afford white-glove relocation management companies. If you’re a 150-person company hiring an engineer in Austin and moving them to Brooklyn, none of that is built for you.
So we set out to close the gap. RELO NYC is purpose-built for Employers and Employees at small to medium size companies in New York City.
What makes the product special is that it’s all built around one city and it brings together employers & employees. It’s a thoughtful mix of tools specifically built for busy professionals moving to New York, and employers overseeing a talent pipeline of moves. Movers will naturally still use other resources outside of the platform to gain an edge in their moving process, and RELO NYC can serve as a home base to bring information and communications all together.
Everything is designed to remove manual work when possible. For example, you can forward expense receipts to a unique relo-nyc.com email address and they show up as a drafted expense report. No manual entry, no typing a hotel total off a PDF. When software alone can’t address a problem, we facilitate warms intros to human experts in sub domains like apartment rentals, moving & storage, corporate housing, and the public/private school systems.
Getting started is quick. Apply to the beta, and once you’re accepted you get a combination of software and actual people on the ground: moving stipend and expense tools, a Service Rolodex to manage all your moving vendors, curated neighborhood guides, a cost of living calculator that reflects local nuances like what a two-bedroom in Astoria costs versus one in SoHo, relocation policy templates with tips built in, and a kanban style Home Tracker to consolidate endless browser tabs of apartment listings.
How the private beta works:
For Employers: your first two transferee invites are free and you can test the platform without limitation. Set up your relocation policy, configure a stipend or lump-sum budget, and invite someone on your team who’s moving. Eventually we may charge for premium features like platform white-labeling or immigration case management, but that will be directly determined by your feedback participating in the beta.
For Movers: free, full stop. We make money through B2B channels and referral partnerships with vetted local vendors — moving companies, corporate housing, and more — and we negotiate exclusive partner discounts you get access to through the platform. Using RELO NYC isn’t just convenient; it’s usually the best deal.
We’re accepting around 5 to 10 companies and individual movers into the private beta, and we’ll be very hands-on with each one. The next few months of roadmap will be built directly off what you tell us is missing or needs polish.
