Engineering Manager - Core Platform - Streaming & Storage

• Streaming — StubHub's event streaming and messaging platform, processing 10–30 billion events per day for ~100 service teams. The team is at the beginning of a major program to bring streaming home to AWS, consolidating from Azure (EventHub, ServiceBus) onto a modern, Kafka-compatible platform with schema enforcement, self-service SDKs, and direct streaming and querying of event data from S3.
• NoSQL / Nonrlational Storage — the platform products for S3, DynamoDB, Redis, MemoryDB, and ElasticSearch, offered as self-service "paved paths" to engineering teams across the company.
• Relational Data — the company's relational data estate: SQL Server and PostgreSQL, plus the associated tooling and operations — DB CI/CD, AI-enabled database access, SOX access controls, and database performance support for all of engineering.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead, grow, and retain a high-performing team of database and platform engineers — hiring, onboarding, mentoring, performance management, and career development.
• Own the multi-year roadmap across all three domains: the Azure→AWS streaming migration, the NoSQL paved paths, and relational modernization (PostgreSQL adoption off SQL Server, DB CI/CD, AI-enabled database access, and workload separation).
• Set technical direction and drive key architecture and vendor decisions in partnership with your Staff/tech leads, balancing delivery speed against the reliability of P0 infrastructure.
• Own operational accountability: governance of 300+ database change requests per month, database performance support for engineering, and incident escalation for P0 systems.
• Ensure compliance is designed into the platform — SOX controls, GDPR/CCPA data privacy, data classification, and access governance.
• Drive execution excellence: capacity planning, sequencing, and delivery across a 40+ item roadmap; establish clear SLAs and observability for shared platforms.
• Partner broadly across ~100 consuming teams, Legal/Compliance, Security & Data Governance, Finance, and engineering leadership.
• Shape StubHub's operational data strategy and represent the team in cross-org planning.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience managing engineering teams, including platform or infrastructure teams.
• A strong technical foundation in distributed systems or data infrastructure — you can hold your own in architecture and vendor discussions.
• Experience owning and delivering multi-quarter, cross-team programs or migrations end-to-end.
• A track record of hiring, growing, and retaining senior engineers; comfortable managing Staff-level ICs.
• Experience with compliance obligations (SOX, GDPR/CCPA) or a demonstrated ability to operate in a regulated environment.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms — streaming/messaging (Kafka or Kafka-compatible), relational (SQL Server, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (DynamoDB, Redis, S3, ElasticSearch), AWS/Azure, Kubernetes/EKS, and Terraform.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management — able to align leadership, partner teams, and engineers on direction.
• Bonus: hands-on and deeply technical, with experience leading Platform teams and streaming, relational, or NoSQL database domains.

• Accelerated Growth Environment: An environment designed for swift skill and knowledge enhancement, where you have the autonomy to lead experiments and tests on a massive scale.
• Top Tier Compensation Package: Competitive base, equity, and upside that tracks with your impact.
• Flexible Time Off: Embrace a healthy work-life balance with unlimited Flex Time Off, providing you the flexibility to manage your schedule and recharge as needed.
• Comprehensive Benefits Package: Prioritize your well-being with a comprehensive benefits package, featuring 401k, and premium Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance options.
